Check Engine Light

Sent to Car Experts April 03 03:31 PM

My 1996 Pontiac Grand AM SE has something wrong with the engine I believe. The 'check engine' light is always on. I have not driven it for about 6 months now. I am look to fix it up. I am not exactly to sure what is wrong with it, but one time I was driving the car and the acceleration seemed very weak, then it actaully died out on me, I had to pull to the side of the road. I brought it into the shop after that, and they fixed something and it hasn't been as bad since. But it still is pretty much undriveable. The engine is weak, and I am willing to fix it and work on it myself, I just am wondering what you think may be the problem.
