Sent to Car Experts April 01, 2006 7:44 p.m.

My '99 Taurus has just begun idling very poorly. It drops to abot 900 rpm when the car is not moving, with the occassional sudden drop to about 400 rpm making the car almost stall. The car runs fine when it is moving, with no misfires or anything. It just idles very poorly. What can cause this?

Thanks for your question.

Sounds like the possibility of a sticking IAC or Idle Air control.

This controls idle functions. I would recommend checking for any vacuum leaks, fuel pressure, any fault codes and then if all those are ok, then replacing the IAC solenoid.
