1996 Chevy blazer engine trouble.

Sent to Car Experts March 29 08:26 PM

(engine is 6 cyl CSEFI) was having a rough idle; ran OBD scanner & got 3 codes: idle speed toohigh; misfire in cylinder 2; and mixture too rich. i was told that when the fuel pressure regulator was bad it dumps the xtra fuel into cylinder 2. checked & cleaned the injectors after removing the plenum; changed the pressure regulator & idle speed control. reassembled w/ all new seals & gaskets. started engine to see if it would turn over, turned over no problem. shut engine off; reinstalled air cleaner; minor plastic appearance covers & cleaned up. went to restart engine & got nothing. engine won't turn. it made the "bad starter" noise. to be sure, removed the starter & had it checked. it tested fine. pulled out the spark plugs, and fuel poured out from each cylinder. looked in throttle body and it was FULL of fuel. i suspect the fuel pump may have primed too long. removed as much fuel as i could & put in new plugs after "drying" out engine for 24 hrs and still nothing. could engine have seized after my less than 20 second test run? it it possible the fuel washed all the lubricant off the cylinder walls & it is now stuck? if so what should i do. can't really afford a rebuild. if its not this, any suggestions?

I really dont think your engine seize, but if the cylinder filled up with fuel and you turned the engine over it could have bent a rod or so. You may have pinched a wire when you put everything back together and the injectors are wide open or the regtulator you put in is worse than your old one. If you remove the spark plugs does your engine turn over? The fuel could have washed the cylinders down, but that would give you a low compression probalem not a locked engine problem. You will need to see if the injectors are grounded or if the regulator is bad. The injectors should have power to them whenever the key is on.

Reply to autodoc_2000's Post: OK, BUT LET ME JUST ASK THIS. THE ENGINE, DURING THE BRIEF MOMENT I HAD IT RUNNING, WAS RUNNING VERY SMOOTH. NO NOISE, NOTHING. WHAT IS THE LIKELYHOOD OF A BENT ROD? AND ALSO, SHOULD I TRY REMOVING ALL THE SPARK PLUGS? JUST SOME? THE REGULATOR IS BRAND NEW OEM; SO I THINK THAT SHOULD BE OK. WOULD YOU RECCOMEND A FUTHER TEAR DOWN TO SEE IF IT IS STILL FLOODED AND LETTING IT DRY OUT?ANYTHING ELSE I CAN TRY TOO WOULD BE GREAT. AND LASTLY, IS IT POSSIBLE THAT THE STARTER TESTED OK ELECTRICALLY, BUT CAN'T HANDLE A LOAD ON THE ENGINE? I KNOW THAT WOULD BE A HUGE COINCIDENCE. THANKS ALOT, AND NO MORE QUESTIONS. I'LL ABSOLUTELY APPROVE PMNT FOR YOU.

You may have gotten it started before the fuel filled up. It is rare for the rod to bend, but I have seen it. Liquid fuel cannot compress and if the engine is turning from the starter it will lock the engine hydralically. When this happens sometimes the rod will bend because of the abrupt stop. Yes remove all of the spark plugs then try to turn it over. If it does not turn over then you have a mechanicl problem. If it turns over the cylinders were locked from the fuel. You never know even if it is brand new it could be faulty. I have pulled my hair out before trying to find out how my diagnosis went wrong only to find out I got a faulty new part right out of the box. If there is still fuel in the cylinders I would tear down what you had apart and look for a pinched wire or to see if the regualtor is at fault. Like I said before pull the spark plugs and turn it over to see if it cranks. If not more than likely mechanical problem, but could be starter.
