I have a 2001 lumina my service engine light came on, ...

I have a 2001 lumina my service engine light came on, it went off after I added radiator fluid, a couple days later it came back on so I flushed the radiator and added a 50/50 mix of dextron and water, the service engine light is still on and now the temp gauge will go back and forth from hot to cold. What could the problem be?
