last month i had to change my transmission

last month i had to change my transmission filter/pan. inside the pan and filter were metal shavings. now i just had to change it again already and the metal shavings are there again. what could cause this?

Reply to Fordanswerman's Post: thank you for your reply to my question, it is appreciated more than you could know. i value your time very much, but all i have to offer is thanks in return. the car is a 1992 ford tempo, vulcan v6 engine, and i believe the transmission is an atx.. or so it SHOULD be. thank you again.
