The most common failures I see in those is

fuel pumps

A/C both compressors or evaporators

If the 8th digit of the VIN is "W", the fuel pressure regulators.

Cooling systemrestrictions when Dexcool has been in it for over 50K

The first 3 items really don't have a timetable for failure but they are common problems in that vehicle.

You can get a history on the vehicle from www.carfax.com

I really thought Carfax included mileage records along with ownership or inspection records.

I think you can request records from your state's registration department

As for symptoms, the fuel pump will just die and not restart if that goes.

The A/C problems always have the same symptoms of low refrigerent, the air gets warmer.

The cooling system problem will first show up as the truck running hotter. the whole idea there is to flush it out more frequently and you can avoid those problems.
