Took vehicle to 42 miles away to have repaired. This was never authorized and assumed they were doing the repair.

I would say that you have a case!!! They need to tell you everything. Especially if they are taking it to somewhere else.

We always let people know a head of time that we will need to take the car to a bodyshop, because we don't have one.

They don't have it, the unauthorized shop still has it.

I would pay them to get your truck back. Because if you don't pay them, they might not give you your truck back. But after that I would not go back there again. I would find somebody else more trustworthly.
