INSTALL OR CONNECT

  1. Apply sealant GM P/N 12346141 or equivalent to the front cover to block joint and to the rear crankshaft seal to block joint. Apply the sealant for 25 mm (1 inch) in both directions from each of the four corners.
  2. Oil pan gasket to the oil pan.
  3. Oil pan to the engine.
  4. Oil pan bolts and studs in sequence. Tighten nuts at the corners to 23 Nm (17 ft lbs) and the bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft lbs) CAUTION: The alignment between the rear of the oil pan and the rear of the block is critical. The two surfaces must be flush to allow for proper alignment with the transmission housing. Measure using a feeler gage to check the clearance between the three oil pan-to-transmission contact points. If the clearance exceeds 0.0254 mm (0.010 in.) at any of the three points repeat the installation steps until the clearance is within specification.
