car dies after warmed up
Sent to Car Experts March 05 10:05 PM

After my 1988 buick regal is warmed up it dies coming to a complete stop. I have to hold the gas down just a little bit. I have changed the fuel pump and the fuel filter. Also my fuel gauge does not work. It comes on every once in a while then quits working. i have checked the fuel pressure and it is at 41 with the key on engine off and when I start the car it drops about 3 pounds down to 38. What else could be the problem.

Optional Information:
1988 Buick Regal 2.8 litre

Already Tried:
I have changed fuel filter and fuel pump and pcv valve

thank you for the question hope this helps

If the engine runs smoothly other then at idle, then I suspect one of the idle sensors. The Throttle Position Sensor, TPS and Idle Air Control, IAC, motor are both involved in controlling the engine to idle properly.

you should check spark plugs notice if any are fouled.....A sooty black coating on the electrodes indicates an overly rich mixture. In this case, either the Coolant Temperature Sensor, CTS, or the oxygen sensor could cause the Engine Control Unit, ECU, to command a rich mixture.
