I drive a 1993 Ford Explorer, and recently it has began to idle very roughly (the guage is at apx. 1/2 an r.p.m.) when in drive, and at a stop. Even if I put it into neutral, it will start to "lurch" in just a few seconds. I've noticed that the battery light will sometimes flash in unison, as if it's an alternator problem. What do you suggest? (Note: This problem was first encountered on the "drive home" after being parked for 8 days in rainy weather at the airport. Signifigance? Maybe none!) Optional Information: 1993 Ford ExplorerAlready Tried: Adding a fuel injection cleaning gasoline additive

The Explorer drives great as long as your foot is actually pushing the accellerator. As far as the last time the fuel filter was replaced goes, I'm not too sure. I've only owned the vehicle for about 18 months, and have never replaced it. However, the former owners did follow a maintenance schedule, and He said he's pretty sure it was changed at the last 15,00 mile service, which was 2 years ago, 30 months ago max.

I think I would start with changing the fuel filter. 2 years is a long time. This is a something you need to do regularly.

I would also check for vacuum leaks around where the upper intake meets the lower intake.

I would still get a fuel pressure test done, if these other things didn't fix it.

Let me know how it goes.

Thanks
