Question

DARK GUMMY STUFF IS IN MY COOLANT IN A 2000 CHEVY MALIBU

Sent to Car Experts February 27, 2006 2:42 p.m.

I bought this Malibu in June-2005. I changed the oilfilter/spark plugs/pvc valve/ fuel filter and air filter in November 2005. When I was finishing up, all my coolant started pooring out from behind my passenger side tire. It was getting dark so I filled it up the next day and watched and waited. Nothing happened, nothing leaked. A week later my check coolant light came on. I continued to watch temperature (and fill every other day). My husband decided he would put stop leak in it when I was on vacation. That seemed to fix the problem(temporarily of course). While I was gone the check brake light came on for a bit. Then the transmission went out. I had that replaced. Now the engine is clicking and the coolant is not the pretty orange it has been. Its gummy and black

Optional Information:
2000 Chevrolet Malibu v6

Already Tried:
adding coolant yesterday stopped the clicking noise..only rattle

ACCEPTED Check Mark

You know where the engine says 3400 on the top of the upper intake? well, just to your left will be the power steering pump and the alternator. Look straight down between the two at the lower intake where it mounts to the engine block, you can see it easier with a falsh light.if its full if coolant and leaking water right now, you should be able to see a trail of coolant coming from this area. also glance at the water pump, which is located more towards the front of the engine on the passenger side usaully right underneath a picture of the drive belt routing.
