We have 1991 Ford Ranger pick up. We are having trouble with the oil pressure. Replaced the oil pump and it did not help. This particular model does not have a distributor but does have a drive gear and shaft. For some reason the connection between the oil pump and the drive gear is not mating. There is a shaft that connects the two but after you run the engine a few minutes is starts slipping and drops out of gear. We get good oil pressure for about 5 minutes and then goes to zero. Here is a picture of the piece we think is the problem.

I don't see your picture however the oil pump drive is not likely to be the cause of your oil pressure problem.A clogged oil pump pick up screen or tube, worn engine bearings or a bad oil pressure relief valve would be prime suspects. If you have really high mileage worn bearings wouldn't suprise me.

The gear that is located on the distributor shaft, this particular model does not have a distributor, it has a coil pack, when we put pressure on top of this gear shaft, we get oil pressure. It's like the rod that connects the distributor shaft or gear to the pump is not connecting properly or mating. Any thoughts.
Thank you so much.
