Question

I have a '96 caddy STS with about 115,000 miles.

I have a '96 caddy STS with about 115,000 miles. Recently, the transmission began to slip and then failed all within a timespan of three or four days.. Before this it didn't slip at all and ran great. When my wife informed me it was acting up I took it for a test drive. It seemed to be okay until the engine warmed up. The warmer the car, the more it slipped until it wouldn't move at all. It was dificult to get the shift back into park. What could cause the tranny to fail abruptly?
