I have a 1990 ranger with the 2.3 liter four and would like to swap it with a 2.3 liter from a 1997-98 ranger with the 8 sparkplug set up. What problems/challenges can I expect?
Thanks in advance

Jeff

Make sure you get all the engine wiring harnesses and computer from the new engine, and make sure the new engine comes with all the accessory brackets (preferably with accessories too). The engine block was changed in 1995, and the old accessory brackets from your truck will not transfer over. Having the new brackets and accessories will greatly simplify that part of the project. The wiring from the new engine will be completely different, so you need to have access to a wiring diagram for a 97-98 Ranger and a 90 Ranger. That way you can find out where to connect the power wires and instrument cluster wires to the new engine harness.

You might wish to check out the 2.3L forum at the following website, there are some good Ranger experts over there that have a lot of knowledge about things like this:

Reply to Brian's Post: do you mean the altenator and power steering pump are mounted different? Where is the computer mounted, is it part of the distributer or is it mounted some where else away from the engine itself
