Question

I have a Ford F350, 7.3 liter diesel, and it has a problem ...

Sent to Car Experts February 15, 2006 8:39 p.m.

I have a Ford F350, 7.3 liter diesel, and it has a problem at idlle. During actual driving, it does not produce smoke, but at idle, even after the engine is warm, it will vibrate for a second when I come to an idle, smooth out, and then puff out white smoke.
I took it to the Ford dealer, they said that two cylinders are down, but the hard part to believe is that it runs like a champ, doesn't smoke, or hesitate during acceleration. It runs perfect.
Any ideas ?
Thanks,
Jeff

Did the dealer have any codes?

So they did a manual compression test, yes? And this was the actual compression test for 6 and 8 correct?

Thanks

It states that the KOEO codes checked out, but the KOER found the bad cylinders

They recommended tearing the engine down.....14 hours of labor at 85.00 per hour?

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Well that is not good. These 7.3 new will be around 450 psi for compression. Sounds like you might have a possible blown headgasket. Or may have some other mechanical issue in those cylinders. These are right next to each other. It may just be a blown head gasket, or it could be bad rings. The KOER will pick up the low cylinders, and then you do a mechanical compression test. I would be real curious of what the other cylinders are as far as compression goes. This way you can get a better assesment of your engines condition.

If it was my vehicle, I would have them do a compression test on the rest of the cylinders. This also will tell you if there compression tester is calibrated right.

Thanks
