How to take apart a 1989 honda Accord LXi fuel/temp gauge?

I bought a 1989 Honda Accord LXi and noticed that the electrical is messing up. Now b/c of such I decided to take apart the dashboard and broke the needles for these items. Now I have gotten another set from the salvage yard and noticed that the gauge set up is backwards but is the same. I would like to use this item but do not want to bust the pins again. How can I remove them?
