2002 chevy impala door locks keep burning a fuse. Works fine all during driving, then an hour later I go to check them and the fuse is burned out.
What do you think?
charlie.lyle@delmonte.com

Optional Information:
2002 Chevrolet impala 3.4 liter

Already Tried:
replaced fuse, tugged at wiring, trunk release will not work either. Keyless works, meaning lights, horn but fuse burns out so the locks will not work automatically.

Greetings!

If the fuse keeps blowing when the locks are actuatusted, there are only 2 likely causes that I can think of:

(1) There is a short circuit between a lock actuator power feed and ground or another wire in a harness. If the wiring harnesses have not been altered, about the only location where this commonly occurs is at the point where the door harness exits the A-pillar and enters the door. The harness flexes in this area whenever the door is opened and closed, so after a few years broken wires in this area are common.

(2) The fuse will also blow if the currect draw for one of the lock actuator motors is excessive. To test for this, an ammeter is installed in the circuit (usually at the fuse block), and current requirements for the various lock actuators is measured as they are operated. If one actuator has a higher amperage requirement than the others, this would indicate either a sticking mechanism inside the door that is putting a heavy load on the motor, or a motor with shorted internal windings.

If no wiring problems or faulty lock motors are found during testing, it is a possibility that the body control module on this vehicle may have an internal fault.

I hope this is helpful to you! If so, an accept would be most appreciated! Thanks!

Relist: I still need help.
I wanted to note that I can drive the car for hours and still not blow a fuse.
It is only when the car will still an hour or 2 that I come back to it and the fuse is blown.
It is not an immediate blown fuse.
I did replace the carpet in the car and it may have caused this.
I do not know, and I am not sure if the carpet replace would have any bearing.
I had the doors open all day long and the battery run down feature turned the lights out sometimes.

since the locks work until i leave the car after a while I suspect it is a body command module since they are tied to that specific fuse.
Where is that and howdod I fix and where do I find that item. Ata dealership/pep boys?

I can drive this car for hours, locking the doors alot and it is only after a couple of hours where the fuse is blow after I turn the car off. additionally I replaced the carpet in the car and left the doors open all day and the battery protect keep the lights coming on and off which is why I thought it was the body command module.thank

Thanks

I wanted to install a body control module and wondered where that is on the car.
I am willing to start there since the fuse is shared by door locks and the module.
Where on the car and is it very easy?

I wanted to install body control module myself. Is it easy, like a fuse.
I want to avoid the dealership because of usual
reasons.

Where would I purchase body control module.
BCM and door locks are on the same fuse and I think this could be the issue
