Mice are getting into the motor fan in my cars, a Nissan, a Toyota, and a Pontiac, all old. How can I stop this without using poison?

I trake it that the vehicles set up for extented periods of time. The only thing other than poison that has been used with some success is a rodent deturent . These are electrical devises that run off 110 volts and emits a ultrasonic noise that insects and rodents don't like. we have used these in boats here in dallas over the winter storage with pretty good results.
