I have a 1994 Volkswagon Jetta GL3. 2.0, 4Cyl. I installed a new battery but the car will not run now. I am not getting any spark from my distributor. All the bells and whistles light up and the engine cranks. Could the Engine Control Module (ECM) have to due with the problem?

Optional Information:
1994 Volkswagen Jetta GL3 2.0 4 Cyl

Already Tried:
Two local shade tree mechanics who have just scratched their heads and said "Sale it for junk".

ACCEPTED Check Mark

I WOULD NOT "SALE IT FOR JUNK" CHECK YOUR FUSES FIRST , THEN CHECK YOUR COIL AND SEE IF YOU ARE GETTING SPARK OUT OF IT. I ONCE CHANGED A MOTOR IN ONE. NEW MOTOR CRANKED AND CRANKED UNTIL I PULLED THE COIL WIRW AND HAD SOMEONE TURN IT OVER WHILE I HELD IT NEAR BODY GROUND . IT ARCED FIRE I PUT IT ON AND IT'S BEEN RUNNING FINE. SOME THINGS THERE ARE NO EXPLANATION FOR !

I have checked all fuses, and checked for spark out of the coil. Still nothing. I was on a VW answer board and someone mentioned the security system might have something to do with it. I tried to remedy that also still no go.... Engine cranks, everything lights up but no start. Hard to believe having all of these symptoms just from changing a battery.
Hope you have more suggestions.... I'm getting ready to put the junkman on my speed dial.

Thanks for any help.

Gerard
