Question

My daughter has a '84 Honda Accord that dies ...

My daughter has a '84 Honda Accord that dies while warming up for 10 min. After restarting and blowing out the smoke it idles fine. When you drive from a cold start, with out the warm up, it will slow down and stop at almost the same spot around 10 miles. After a restart and a few revs, it's OK. Can you help? Our Honda Dealers won't work on their own Carbs or chokes and they say that's the problem. Thank you!

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It sounds as though either the choke thermostat is sticking or the egr valve is malfunctioning. If the dealer told you it was the carb but they wont work on it then you can bet it is a bugger.

I would see about getting a rebuilt carb from Auto zone or another parts house and replace it. Unless a person is an expert on carburetors they are very hard to fix. The parts cost about as much as a rebuilt any way.

You could call the local better business bureau and ask them to recommend an import shop that isn't a dealer.

Hope this helps, an accept would be appreciated.
