88 Chevy silverado 4.3L air conditioning problem.

Sent to Car Experts January 24, 2006 8:17 p.m.

88 Chevy silverado 4.3L air conditioning problem. This system has been retrofitted to r134a years ago professionally. Has been working great for years, but just recently (6mos) compressor has been turning off and on quickly only while foot is on accelerator or driving causing a jerky feel to truck. while idling compressor seems to act normal and actually cools better, which is kinda of backward from the way it used to be. what could be causing this? (pressures might be wrong in the system?) (bad pressure switch?) Ac seems to work otherwise. and there seems to be enough of a charge in the system (checked with a simple guage from autoparts store) maybe a little high??? I read somewhere that r134a should only be 80% charge of r12. Any ideas???
