Question

84 Toyota Camry - Is it ready for the auto cemetary?

Sent to Car Experts January 12, 2006 1:50 p.m.

I have a 1984 Toyota Camry with a 2.0l engine It does have A/C and cruise control. This is the second engine I have had in this car and it has never given me any problems. A few days ago my car died out on me on my way home from work which is approx. 15 miles from work. When I went to try and restart it the battery was completely dead. I was able to jump start it and make it home after getting another jump start just a few blocks from where I originally stalled. When I arrived home I put it on a battery charger and the next morning it started fine. Then on my way home from work I went to drive it and had to jumpstart it then I had no power except in 1st and 2nd gear. Then it overheated. Come to find out there is a hole in the radiator. I was able to drive it home and replace the radiator. I also replaced the spark plugs and wires thinking this may be the cause for no power. Could you verify the gap? The guy at the parts store told me it was .044. Now my car will not start. I think I may have burned out the starter when I went to restart it after it overheated. I have gotten it to start only after I have it on the battery charger and turning the key in the ignition and holding it in the start position for minutes. And then after it starts it is very loud, like if my exhaust has become disconnected from the engine and it will not stay started.   I am quite able of fixing my car so if you can help me I would truly appreciate it.
