I have a 94 Grand Am 5-speed. The shifter linkage is off, and it will not go into first or second gear. Is there an adjustment to make the rod pull out far enough to engage those gears?

Optional Information:
1994 Pontiac Grand Am Quad 4

Already Tried:
Took apart console in car to inspect the linkage right at the base of the shifter

Place the shifter in neutral

Then lift the locking tab on the shifter cable (located at the shifter cable braket on the transaxle)

Place the transaxle shifer ear in the neutral position

Then push the locking tab back down.

If adjustment was done correctly and you still have a problem you should have the transmission checked for an internal problem.
