where is the transmission stick located on Ford 96Explorer

trying to check gear oil,having a hard time shifting in to 1st & 2nd gears. I have located the engine oil stick,but don't know what to look for with transmission oil?

As you look to the front of the engine,your dip stick should be on the left side ,sometimes is covered by the coolant hose.It should be on the left rear side of the engine as you look in front of the engine.If you stilldon`t see it the dip stick might be broken,and that is the reason why you cannot see it.
