Question

i have a dodge caravan v i have had problems with the

Sent to Car Experts December 28, 2005 1:18 a.m.

I have a Dodge caravan, 1989 V6 3.0. I have had problems with the engine for the last little while. It will run fine for a while and then it will start sputtering untill it dies. I will start it back up and it will sputter. I have to pump the throttle to get it to stay started and then I have a hard time keeping it at a level rpm. Most of the time I have to fight it untill it finally levels out and then I have to keep it at about 1500 to 2000 rpms to keep it running. If I try to let it idol it just sputters and dies. When I stop trying to start it, it smells like I have just been running a chain saw, like there's an oil/gasoline mix. What might the problem be?

Optional Information:
1989 Dodge caravan v-6 3.0

Already Tried:
changed fuel filter, spark plugs, spark plug wires, distributer cap and spark rotor. replaced catilidic converter. I have checked the fuel pump and it seems to be functioning properly.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

Does it set any codes? If not it seems to me that you have a fuel problem. I would start by checking the fuel pressure. You could have a bad fuel pressure regulator or the pump could be getting bad.
