My 1993 Toyota Celica GTS (243,000 miles, well maintained) as begun to make a tapping noise in the engine whenever I slightly lug the engine (usually 3rd or 4th gear between 2500 and 3000 RPMs). The noise seems to go away at higher speeds above 50 mph and is not that noticeable at lower speeds of under 20 mph... The mechanics at Toyota dealeership could not hear the noise until I took them for a drive and made them listen to what I was talking about. They said "Oh, it's a lower engine noise." Whatever that means? Now I'm waiting nervously for the diagnosis. Is the end of an era for me and my Toyota? I hate to part with it, she's been so good to me.....
