egr valve on 1997 f-150

diagnostic test say is the EGR valve, but its not the valve itself, we've replaced it and the problem continues the same. What other component can it be that would still show to be the ERG valve? also, they said it might be a second code, sensor #3 is misfiring, but they said they can't know for sure until the EGR problem is fixed. this is for a 1997 f-150 4.6l enginve. 2 wheel drive.
