22R Toyota engine wont start when hot
Sent to Car Experts December 10 07:15 PM

I have a 1982 Toyota PU 4WD. The engine is a 1985 22R CARB. I am having troubles with the engine not starting when it is at normal operating temprature. For example, if I make a quick run into a store and come back out, my truck will not start. Once cooled it will. I have tested the battery. It has 13 Volts, and is rated for 675CCA. The battery is only four months old. I replaced the starter already with a remanufactured one. I replace the battery cables and the wire going to the ignition switch from the starter. If I put a booster pack on the battery it will start with no problem.

Reply to john's Post: I have already cleaned up the ground to the body using a wire wheel. I did the same with the positve cable to the starter. I have changed all connections in the starting circuit, and still have had no luck. When I am having difficulty starting it is when I apply the jumper, and it cranks with no problem. So i thought it was a weak or bad battery. But I checked the battery and the gravity is good, and so is the voltage. And the battery is rated for 675 CCA which is double what is required.

I think your on the right track with the batt. The only way to accuratly check the batt is with a batt tester! Just by checking the gravity or putting a volt meter on it is not a sufficient way of checking the batt. The batt has to be load tested. The batt volts must be watched when the batt is under a load. Most auto parts stores will test your batt for free. Good luck! let me know how it goes.

Believe it or not I had a bad batt pass a load test. I would put another one in there for testing purposes.
