LOOKING FOR A FORD TRANS. TECH !
I am also an expert, would like reply from ford transmission tech only. I have a 99 ford superduty with a 7.3 powerstroke and automatic transmission. I am looking for a Ford tranny tech to answer. I'm considering installing a exhaust brake. I would like to know if this will cause any transmission problems. I work for dodge and up until recently exhaust brakes where not recomended as they would burn up the torque converters. I would like to know if you would recomend or not recomend installing a exhaust brake and why. Would also like to know of any other possible future problems that may arise and what if any problems you have seen associated with an exhaust brake. Also if you were to install a exhaust brake, which brand and why. PlEASE ONLY ANSWER IF YOU ARE A FORD TRANS. TECH!

I have seen most people use Banks systems and have the least amount of troubles with their systems. They seem to be the least problematic to install. Main things to consider is if you are going to chip the processor along with the brake. Most chips can cause trans damage down the road and/or depending on customer use/abuse. I do not particulary recommend going outside the manufacturer with certain add ons, especially if it is a 6.0 liter diesel. They have had lots of troubles doing engine and trans damage.

The 7.3 is a good motor and has had MOST of its problems worked out at your model year, still a few quirks here and there. The trans is a decent trans, but has its own set of problems as well. Most things that fail is the intermediate one way clutch, they changed to a newer style one way clutch, it fails, the fix is to go bad to the old style! Other than that, torque convertors develop excessive end play as they gain mileage(close to 60k and up depending on towing) as well as some solenoid body issues with the torque convertor clutch solenoid.

I would research/google any product you are considering to use,a manufacturer must prove if an add on componet causes a failure before voiding any warranty you may have left on the vehicle (Mass-Mognuson act) spelling may be off on that.
