REPLIED Check Mark

Flat rate book time is 1.5 hours at whatever the shops rate is. You can get a NAPA alternator cost around $180 for their cheaper line. Most shops mark up their parts to make money so the price will go up from there. This is probably the minimum you wouuld pay.

I need a more specific answer. Like... How much is usual for labour/hour in Northern California? How much is the mark up? I had my alternator replaced in 2004 for $380 and again in 2005 for $542 - a $162 difference in cost. I think I was taken advantage of - especially since the alternator was a dud and the car broke down again 10 minutes later. I want to write and get a refund for the $162 but need to know if they can justify it.
