1993 Ford Ranger 4cyl, temperature gauge gets to halfway between cold and normal, heater puts out hot air for 30seconds and then cools off.

Check thermostat housing bolts for propper torque, there is possible internal coolant leakage, or dirt accumulation on thermostat valve needs purged.

Reply to Tony Pummill's Post: I actually replaced the whole thermostat this evening so it is clean. Also replaced coolant and there is no leak. The thing is that the temperature runs cool according to the gauge and not hot as I would expect if the coolant was low or leaking.

Is your coolant level in the radiator AND the reserve bottle filled to the proper level, if not fill.
