I heard a knocking noise when I started up my 1998 Dodge caravan and later the noise stopped but it is very hard to turn into the parking lot-is this the power steering pump??

From what you describe this is very probable.Is it hard to steer with all turns?Is the fluid level in the pump full?Make sure the belt is present and tight.If so than most likely you will need to replace the pump.I can post instructions for the replacement if you need them.Just ask.
