My 1998 Ford Taurus 3.0 OHV has an intermittant miss at idle, and lacks power. Any ideas?

Optional Information: 1998 Ford taurus 3.0 pushrod
Already Tried:
checked obd system, no codes, pid values seem in normal ranges. fuel mileage fluctuates between about 18-22mpg while driving the same routes. seems like this should be higher, no? my old 3.0 averaged in the high 20's. tire pressure is good.
