I have a 98 Saturn, just had the front o2 sensor replaced, the oil pressure relief vavle, and the timing chain. I have nocticed when you put any electrical load on the vehicle after driving for 20 mins. or more, the engine seems to surge or vibrate, and again only with the lights/turn signals/ fan running. The engine idles around 800 rpms or so, and the rpm needle does move up and down slightly, any ideas?

Optional Information: 1998 Saturn

If you just had all that work done and are experiencing idle surge issues you need to take it back to where you had the work performed to give them a chance to rectify the problem. It sounds like you may have a little vacuum leak occuring there.Maybe from the work, maybe not. That idle is too high by the way.Another indicator of a vacuum leak.I would definately take it back.

Reply to Michael's Post: I hate to sound silly, but what exactly is a vacuum leak, and would this show up as a fault code in the car's computer?

Not a silly question.a vac leak in effect is introducing additional air into an already perfectly calculated fuel/air mixture for combustion. The vehicles 02 sensor monitors this as a lean condition and the engine light is illuminated. Many 02 sensors are needlesly replaced for just such a reason.Just because the 02 sensor monitors an abnormal condition in the exhaust stream,it does not mean that it's bad.Are you saying you are getting fault codes again after the work was performed? I really cannot put it in simpler terms for you.I do not know why the 02 was replaced on your vehicle.Maybe it was bad?I merely gave you some idea as to the cause of your new issue with engine performance.a timing BELT is replaced there are many things that are disassembled on the engine and possibly overlooked during re assembly.I was suggesting that you go back and let them take a look at their work to find out if something was infact overlooked and why the idle was so high.
