What SUV with Gross Vehicle Weight over 6000 pounds gets the best gas mileage?

Already Tried:
I am interested in the tax advantages of a 6000+ pound SUV but dissuaded by the mpg. So I wonder, what in fact is the heavy SUV with the best gas mileage?

According to the 2006 EPA Fuel Economy Guide the Sequoia, Tahoe, Expedition and Yukon are all about the same.

You can download the whole guide for free here, print it out and peruse: http://www.fueleconomy.gov/feg/FEG2006.pdf

Reply to Steve Gardner's Post: Thank you, but I wanted to know the one with the highest mileage per gallon within the class of vehicles with Gross Vehicle Weight of 6000+ pounds. I know the BMW X-5 has GVW > 6000 pounds and it also has higher gas mileage than at least a couple of the ones you mention. So you haven't identified the highest mileage vehicle yet.

But I do accept using this EPA Fuel Economy Guide as the standard for what the mpg is.

Could you identify the #1 SUV?

Here is the list of Section 179 qualifying vehicles for 2005: http://www.selfemployedweb.com/suv-tax-deduction-list.htm

Assuming you need a 4x4 looks to me like the X5, Trailblazer, and Toureg all get 21 highway.

The 2WD Trailblazer gets 22.

You may want to print both documents out and go through them with a highlighter. Please understand it is hard for me to do on a laptop screen :)

Hope that helps.

Thanks very much and good luck.
