I have a 2001 chevrolet Venture LS. It has 131,000 miles and since I bought it brand new I have been using synthetic oil and changing the oil every 3000 to 5000 miles and all other preventative maintenance. I think the main bearing is going out. The engine makes a knocking or ticking noise. When I put STP oil treatment in the engine is quite for a while like 20 miles then it starts the noises again. Is this in fact the Main bearing going out. And what might be the ballpark estimate to repair and is it worth it to repair. We still owe 9700.00. Please help! Thank you
Cindy

ACCEPTED Check Mark

While I can't guarentee this fact it may be piston knock due to carbon.Running some fuel system cleaner may clear it up if that's the case.Make sure you don't have coolant in the engine oil due to a leaking intake gasket.

No it is not a piston knock. It is the main bearting. What might be a ballpark figure to repair? We owe $9700 on the van is it worth repairing or do we dump it?

One thing I forgot to mention. The sound only happens when the van is warm and in park or nuetral only. Once you put the car in gear, the sound goes away.
