You need to do a theft deterrent relearn procedure.Remove the battery cable for 1 minute to clear the codes so you don't need a scan tool and reconn

Time required, approximately 10 minutes.

  1. Insure that the battery is fully charged.
  2. Use the scan tool in order to clear the DTCs.
  3. Turn the ignition switch from the OFF position to the CRANK position attempting to start the vehicle. The vehicle will start and then stall.
  4. Leave the ignition switch in the ON position while observing the security indicator.
  5. When the security indicator turns off, which can take up to 10 minutes, turn the ignition switch off. Wait 10 seconds.

The BCM and the PCM will learn the new code on the next start attempt.

ect and proceed as follows.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: Does the 96 computer have the codes for the theft deterrent system? Since I change the PCM from the 96 to the 98. The theft deterent light does come on but I thought that because the 96 didn't have it then it would not work on the 98. Thank you for the reply I will try this.

See if the fuel pump is staying running. Are you losing spark, fuel pressure or injector pulse. You have a mismatch here and may not have power and ground where it needs to be.My info says the 1996 had theft detterent so please try what I told you.The engine will start and stall away if you are in theft mode.Try the theft relearn before you keep on asking about other stuff.
