my backup lights on my 1997 dodge ram 1500 work sometimes and sometimes they don't. I have a five speed manual transmission.

You have to check power in and out of the back up light switch mounted on the driver's side of the transmission just behind the shifter

On all manual transmissions, the switch is located on the driver's side of the transmission, just below and behind the shifter.
