how do i fix the interior door handle, passenger side, on a 1998 chev 1500 extended cab truck

You will need to take the panel off to investigate and replace as required.These are instructions for rear door panel as well if you have it.

C/K Series

See Figures 13, 14 and 15

  1. Remove the window handle by depressing the door panel and removing the retaining clip.

  2. Remove the door lock knob.

  3. Remove the arm rest.

  4. Snap off the trim covers and remove the screws retaining the assist strap, if so equipped.

  5. Remove the electrical switch panel, if so equipped.

  6. Remove the trim panel by carefully prying out at the trim retainers located around the perimeter of the panel.

To install:

Before installing the door trim assembly, check that all trim retainers are securely installed to the assembly and are not damaged.

  1. Pull the door inside handle inward, then position trim assembly to inner panel, inserting door handle through handle hole in panel.

  1. Position rim assembly to door inner panel so trim retainers are aligned with attaching holes in panel and tap retainers into holes with a clean rubber mallet.

  2. Install previously removed items.

Rear Seat Access Door (Extended Cab)

See Figures 16 and 17

  1. Remove the armrest screws and the seatbelt retractor cover and "D" ring.

  2. Remove the trim panel by carefully prying out at the trim retainers located around the perimeter of the panel.

To install:

  1. Install the trim panel on the door and engage the trim retainers.

  2. Install the seatbelt "D" ring and retractor cover.

  3. Fasten the armrest screws.
