MY HEATER WILL NOT GET HOT TO THE TOUCH COMING OUT OF THE VENTS
Sent to Car Experts October 17 12:28 PM

MY HEATER IN MY JEEP IS NOT GETTING HOT ENOUGH, AND THE VEHICLE WILL NOT GET WARM ENOUGH IN TEMP'S UNDER 50 DEGREE'S OUTSIDE. I HAD THE HEATER TESTED BY CARMAX AND THEY SAID IT WAS 130 DEGREES COMING OUT OF THE VENTS. MY DAD'S BUICK WILL BURN YOUR HAND IN FRONT OF THE VENTS, AND MY JEEP DOES NOT GET THAT HOT AT ALL. PLEASE TELL ME WHAT THE STANDARD TEMP SHOULD BE, AND WHAT I MIGHT DO TO CORRECT THIS PROBLEM AND WHAT I CAN USE TO CHECK THE TEMP COMING OUT OF THE VENTS. THANK YOU     1999 JEEP GRAND CHROKEE LIMITED

You can try replacing the thermostat but in all honesty 130 degrees is pretty good.Maybe the thermostat is bad and it can't get that high outside in the colder air.If that doesn't work you can try removing the hoses from the heater core and flush it with a garden hose.

Reply to Davo/diablo666's Post: DAVO I DON'T THINK THAT IT IS GETTING 130 DEGREES BECAUSE THIS MORNING I HAD THE HEAT ON FULL BLAST AND THE TEMP OUTSIDE WAS ABOUT 44 DEGREES AND THE JEEP NEVER DID GET HOT INSIDE. MY DAD'S BUICK WHEN YOU TURN THE HEAT ON FULL BLAST YOU COULD NOT STAND IT IN THERE IT WOULD BURN YOU OUT. WHAT COULD I USE TO CHECK THE TEMP COMING OUT OF THE VENTS WITH, AND IS THAT WHERE YOU SHOULD CHECK THE TEMP AT. THANK YOU

A simple stick type thermometer can be found at any auto parts store for a few dollars. You can check it at the vents by just sticking it in when the heat is on the vent position. It would be a good idea to make sure your coolant level is full because if it's low you won't get the proper heat either.I would think you have a bad thermostat or a clogged heater core.I told you what to do to eliminate those two issues.
