Ok - I checked all the tsb's and recalls and there is only one relating to this. It's a problem with the air return hose (Positive Crankcase Ventilation Hose) and they state that it needs to be cleaned every 10,000 miles or it can cause drivability problems.
I did not find any directly related tsb's to what is hapening here, but I did find a few symptom diag tips. They all pointed back to air management, not engine failure.
Air management sensors are:
ECTS -Engine Coolant Temp Sender
MAF - Mass Air Flow Sensor
ATS - (intake) Air Temp Sensor
Tps - throttle position sensor.
If any of these sensors are not reading properly because they are malfunctioning or there is a mechanical failure of a piece that they are attached too (Example: the induction hose for the Mass Air Flow Meter is torn so it cannot read right), can and will cause the symptoms you have described.
Since the introduction of OBDII (On Board Diagnostics 2) from 1995 up, it is much easier for us independant repair shops to determine what is wrong - provided we have our equipment updated to current.
I would strongly suggest based off of the info we have discussed, get another opinion - ESPECIALLY if the shop is putting you on ignore when you call. I am not able to physically see the vehicle but something is not making sense here. I have sent a little more info to your mail.
