My 2000 Ford Focus has a "thumping" noise when you go over a speed bump or drive on a bumping road. (It sounds like something in the trunk bouncing around.) The local shop told me that one of the "bushings" on the control arms was bad. AND that Ford doesn't make the bushings anymore, they are not available "after market" yet, so I must buy a new control arm in order to get the bushing. PLUS they recommended I BUY ALL FOUR for a grand total of $847 plus tax. Needless to say I don't wish to spend almost $900 for a rubber bushing.
1. Is it necessary to replace ALL FOUR control arms?
2. Can you buy the bushings by themselves? Are they available after market somewhere?
3. Is it dangerous NOT to replace the bushings or just annoying?
Any suggestions appreciated.

I have found your bushings for sale for $40.00 at the following website:
http://www.carjunky.com/accessories/

Since thier site would not allow me to copy and paste the actual page address where I found the parts for you, I have provided the part number wich you can type in once you go to the link I've provided above. Check it out, and let me know. I hope this helps you.

Here is the part number:
Part #43156G

THANK YOU! The bushing is a small charge -- I think my local dealer either really didn't know or wanted to make some extra $$. I prefer to believe in his ignorance, but am old enough to know that not all people are interested in your welfare.
