I have a 1991 oldsmobil, with anti lock brakes. Here is the problem. When I step on the pedal it goes to the floor, I can not pump it up-full of fluid-if you take off the capon the master cycliner and pump the pedal-air back into the mastercyclinder-bubbles in fluid-when you hold the cap on. We have had many problems with these brakes, have had them to a repair shop and the brakes never last long. Thanks for your help

I didn't get an answer to my 2 nd question. Can I disconnect the anti lock brakes all together. Just go to a regular brake system

Did you run the master cylinder dry of brake fluid?Did you change the calipers for the front brakes?Have you tried bleeding the brakes?

REPLIED Check Mark

You can disconnect and disable the electric portion of the system and make it inoperable but the hydraulic components remain a part of the system so if you have a bleeding issue with the ABS, you will have to get it resolved before you have good brakes.

It sounds like you may have a problem with the master cylinder. You will probably have a lot better luck bleeding if you got your hands on a pressure bleeder.

Hammer time- Before we got your reply, this morning I took everything off that goes with the anti lock brakes. Then I bleed the brakes. They seem to work fine, we have just a regular standard brake now. Hopefully this will solve the problem. It was an 98 olds, one of your technician ask for the model.

ACCEPTED Check Mark

It has to be only electrical components you took off. You need the hydraulic components to maintain connection to the rest of the system. Simply removing the fuse would have left you with regular brakes.
