Silverado Overheating
Sent to Car Experts September 08 10:24 AM

My 1997 Silverado is overheating. I just replaced the thermostat last night. What else should I look into? BTW I am a female so make it simple (LOL). I don't smell antifreeze, but the temp gauge while idleing goes up to 240. If I turn the heater on full blast it goes down rather quickly. But I can't run the a/c and it's 95 degrees here in Texas. PLEASE help!!

Have you checked the coolant level in the radiator (not just the reserve) on a regular basis?

Is it consuming any coolant over time?

Unless you are losing coolant, which is the question I just asked you, the water pump is not the problem. You just going to throw some money away.

If you are not continuously losing coolant, then it is either a fan or a radiator issue. Most likely the radiator being internally restricted. Turning the heater on just introduces a couple of quarts of cooler coolant so that only lasts for a few minutes.

As far as your deposit is concerned, if you don't click on the accept button, the money stays with the site and I see nothing.

I don't know if I'm losing anything.
I don't smell it (I know what it smells like)but
I suppose that doesn't mean anything.

Anyway help is on it's way. Thanks
