Question

Passat running 220 degrees

Sent to Car Experts August 16, 2005 6:25 p.m.

I have a 1995 volkswagen passat 2.8 vr6 with 123000 miles on efi engine.Equipped with automatic trans. I just replaced the heater core and now want to know what the normal engine operating temperature rangeshould be. The temp gauge shows 220-225 degrees, the fans don't come on until after I have turned the engine off. Shouldn't the fans come on while the engine is running if the temp threshold is reached?

I don't have specific on that particular car, but nearly every vehicle around is programmed to energize the cooling fan at or above 226deg. as long as it comes right down when the fan comes on, don't worry about it. I wouldn't consider the dash temp gauge to be completely accurate either.

Thank you for your prompt response. However, you response does not address my problem. The question you reference was one that I asked some time last year, not the question that was submitted on April 4, 2005.
My question was as follows: I have a 1993 Camaro Z28 with 5.7 V8 and auto transmission. The A/C compressor has to be removed, replaced and serviced.
Can you provide the removal, installation and servicing procedure/instructions,or a website that has that information. Thanks
