89 Dodge Fuel pump problem

Sent to Car Experts August 10 08:51 AM

I have an 89 dodge D100 with a 318 that I converted from a fuel injection system to carborated. Now that I am done my fuel pump won't turn on. I found a wiring harness running out of the top of the pump. It has 4 wires. Two grey a green and a blue. How do I get power to the fuel pump?

i don't know what gave you the idea you could do that but it won't work. The electric fuel pump is an integral part of the fuel injection system. The pressure is way to high for a carbuerator and the regulator was part of the fuel injections system. The electronics won't work because they are for fuel injection.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: I am not going to accept this answer because you didn't answer it. I didn't ask if I could do it, I did it. I attached a fuel regulator to the fuel line so I could get the right fuel preasure into the carb. Last night I found the hot wire and ran it to the fuse box and got the pump going. The truck runs great now. You could have at least given me an alternative if you thought I was in the wrong, that would have at least been an attempt to answer my problem. I do appreciate your time.

You also could have responded with further comments or questions. You never stated you had a regulator. I hope you fused it.

If that's not a by-pass type regulator using a return line, your pump likely won't last too long.
