I have a 99 Chevy Prizm that is using oil but there are no visible leaks, oil on the driveway etc. One mechanic told me it is a seeping head gasket, but the lastest mechanic said that can't be the problem. Since the last oil change(around 400 miles) the oil level has remained constant. It seems the oil level drops after long trips(500 miles when my daughter drives to college). Also on these long drives a black soot collects on the trunk around the tailpipe. Do you have any idea what is going on here? I have an appointment on Friday(they put tracer dye last week and told me to run it for a week) but if the oil level is fine they're probably going to think I'm nuts. Help.
