Excessive oil consumption

Sent to Car Experts July 25 11:42 AM

Purchased 2 weeks ago a 1999 Dodge Ram Conversion Van B1500 5.9 liter V8 W/85,314 mi.on it. Oil change was done before I picked up this van. Have driven 450mi. and had to put in 2.5 quarts of oil. No leakage, no smoke out tailpipe. I have a 60 day or 3,000 mi. warranty for 100% labor & parts (CT. Law on used cars). Suggestion on how to handle this!! Bought this from a garage with a CT. dealer license. Also what could be wrong! Valve seals or rings!!   Thank you.   Customer (name blocked for privacy) P.S. Oil was down a quart and a half after test drive. Should of known then!!!

It takes a lot of oil to smoke very much. I would think yours should be from what you said. Get some one to follow you and seee if they observe any. It is hard to see from the drivers seat.
If you are positive you ave no leaks it has to be burning it. Rings will smoke some all the time, more so under acceleration and let off. Valge guides/seals will after setting a while smoke heavy at start ups and very little the rest of the time.
Hope this helps
ThankYou,

I did have someone follow me for 35 miles to see if it smoked and it didn't. I also didn't find a drop of oil in my driveway and anyplace else I stopped! I just can't figure it out. I'm 67 years old, (only on paper), and since I'm retired I didn't want to get stuck with a lemon!! If the cosmetic appearance wasn't so good, (even have all the manuals for the TV, VCR,CB, Older cell phone, hard wired like the one I started with back in 1983), I would try to get out of this situation. My only hope is the 60 day or 3000 mile warranty CT. has dealers give
out on used cars. My next trip is to the DMV on their explanation of this warranty!! Thanks for your time and yes I will accept your answer.
