vibration in a 97 Pontiac Sunfire
Sent to Car Experts July 21 11:29 PM

I have a vibration in my front right side. I replaced the wheel bearing and axle 2 months ago. Recently I have been getting a vibration that gets worst as I turn right and goes away when I turn left. The speed of the vibration and loudness corresponds to the speed I go. For example. the faster I go the louder it is. I pulled the tire, rotor, and axle off tonight and had a friend listen to it. He said that it was coming from the transmission and said that it was possible the "outer tranmission bearing". He explained to me that this bearing is around the "fitting" that hold the axle in the transmission. My vehicle is a 97 Pontiac Sunfire, front wheel drive, automatic transmission. No turbo. Any idea what it is. Patrick

If the noise gets louder when you turn right, the problem is in the LEFT front wheel bearing. That's where the weight transfers when turning right.

Reply to Hammer Time's Post: No it is not. I replaced that and the noise continues. The noise, as stated, comes for the area where the right front axle connects to the transmission.
