Ford Explorer 2004
Sent to Car Experts July 21 06:23 PM

I purchased a 2004 Ford Explorer, former rental, 40,000 mls on 6/20. On 6/30, the accellerator went out. As of today, 7/21, they still have not found out what is wrong with it. Everyone has looked at the vehicle including a Ford engineer. They have ordered a new harness and said that it will be another 3 weeks. After a fight, they are paying completely for the rental. Is the accellerator going out, something unusual? The Ford dealership said that they have never seen this problem.

It has to be something unusual because engineers don't just run off to the dealership for no reason.Engineers can be called in for problems that remain uncorrected by normal means. They also gather evidence on the problem for future similar problems. So I guess you will have to be patient until the harness comes in.I would hope that the throttle body/throttle actuator was already changed and the accelerator pedal position sensor was checked.Thse may not be the exact name Ford calls those parts but it is a throttle by wire system that's why the are trying a harness.
